About Us

Nenaawateg” is the Algonquin word for “a hub” or “the center of a network.”
see The Algonquin Lexicon [Algonquin to English edition] by Ernest MacGregor, Kitigan Zibi, PQ.

Nenaawateg Inc. is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice center for Indigenous culture, healing, and settler reconciliation education.

We do this by providing a racially safe place for people with Indigenous ancestry to gather. We strive to provide quality, culturally appropriate, wholistic services by sharing and promoting traditional practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being with a focus on providing services to Indigenous Peoples (Status, Non-status, Inuit, and Métis) residing in Renfrew County.

We also provide education for settlers and the broader community about Indigenous cultures, histories, and philosophies and provide the opportunity for allies to come together in a spirit of reconciliation to pursue the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Nenaawateg evolved from The Indigenous Hub run by The Circle of Turtle Lodge.

The Indigenous Hub opened in the Pembroke Mall in September 2022 and began regular programming of education, cultural and craft activities.

From June – November 2023 The Indigenous Hub provided programming for 474 participants.

Now it is a Canadian Not-for-Profit organisation that you will find in Renfrew’s Indigenous Cultural Centre at Ma-te-way Park.
