Membership

The 2021 census reported that there were over 8,400 self-declared people of Indigenous heritage living in Renfrew County.  Most of these individuals cannot be served by the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nations due to Indian Act restrictions, therefore they are unable to access services for cultural reclamation, language, social, and other health and wellbeing programs without us.

We attract individuals from First Nations across the country, as well as Metis and Inuit peoples, who now reside here.  In addition, the local settler population, including the New Age-ers, educators, church groups, and the general public, are eager to participate in our programming.

The diverse backgrounds of our members enrich the tapestry of Indigenous culture within Renfrew County, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Indigenous Membership

Membership in Nenaawateg is open, free, and lasts a lifetime to anyone of bona fide Indigenous Ancestry, removing the confines of ‘Indian Status.’ While citizens of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation may form an integral part of our community, our organization extends its reach far beyond this unceded Traditional Territory, including individuals from various First Nations, as well as the Métis and Inuit communities, across Canada.
