“Land Back” In Action

Board Member, Blair Voyvodic, joyously and passionately made his contribution to the Land Back campaign by donating land to Nenaawateg. Nenaawateg hopes to care for this land in a good way and be supported back by it as a space for cultural and traditional practices, where community can thrive and foster sustainable stewardship for generations to come.

The Land Back movement advocates for the return of Indigenous lands to their original stewards, addressing centuries of displacement and injustice. It’s not just about land — it’s about restoring sovereignty, revitalizing cultures, and empowering Indigenous communities to resume their roles as environmental caretakers.

Blair’s actions highlight the importance of acts like this in advancing reconciliation. By returning lands, we honour Indigenous sovereignty while fostering a shared commitment to justice and environmental sustainability. Chi Mii’Gwech to Blair for this important act.

Many of the Board Members gathered on the land in Ceremony on January 1, 2025 to honour this moment. Peeking out behind us is a stunning waterfall and creek flowing through. We’re excited for all the possibilities this land brings for our community.
